A Roman mosaic almost 2,000 years old dedicated to the God Oceanus, now on show at the Municipal Museum of Faro, has been described as one of the best-preserved in the south of the country.
In 2018 it was classified national treasure. The mosaic, found in private works in a house next to the Faro Railway Station, may have been the floor of a public building, suggesting that Roman Faro had a commercial area beyond the old city centre.
